If it were not for my friend, Natalie, I would not be doing another blog. But she convinced me to enter The 2011 Global Reading Challenge which entails reading three novels from each of seven continents, 21 countries or states in all. In order to sign up, I need a URL. Now I didn't happen to have an extra URL lying around in the junk drawer in my desk, hence the new blog. Not that I need any serious persuasion to read a book set in an exotic location. The title of this blog speaks of my personal habits: reading mysteries set in faraway lands, following other writer's travel blogs, and, of course, traveling as much as possible myself. At this point I have visited five of the seven continents, including Antarctica. I'll let you guess which two I am missing. I hope to remedy that in September, 2012 when we are doing a 75 day cruise to Asia, Australasia and the the South Seas. My husband, David, is my willing travel partner. We've done South American and Antarctica with Natalie and her husband, so hopefully they will join us on the next adventure.
Currently, I am trapped in Scandinavia! I am working my way through Scandinavian authors and became enthralled with them long before the Stieg Larsson craze. First exposure occurred reading Per Whaloo and Maj Sojwall, way back in the 80's. Read in sequence, they give a great view of change within the Swedish Socialist Democracy society, but are also excellent police procedurals. They remind me a bit of Henning Mankell. "Roseanne" was written in 1965 and the tenth, "The Terrorists" appeared in 1975. All for now, Ake Ewardson is calling.
